Pine Bluff Police name suspect wanted for Thursday night homicide

UPDATE 4:00 P.M. Detectives with Pine Bluff Police Department have identified 21-year-old Vincent Glenn Tyler Jr. as the suspect in this murder.

Tyler is about 5’ 4” tall and average build. Tyler should be considered armed and dangerous.

UPDATE: On May 18, 2023, just before 11:30 PM, Pine Bluff Officers responded to the area of 23rd Ave. and Elm St. for a call of a vehicle sitting in the roadway.  Officers arrived and located a pickup truck facing North on Elm St.  near 23rd Avenue. They located a single 44-year-old male in the driver’s seat of a truck.

The victim has been identified as 44-year-old John Payne. Payne was pronounced deceased at 12:05 a.m. by Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley due to multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

There was no one else in or around the vehicle when officers arrived. The motive for this shooting is unknown at the time of this release.  

There is no suspect information to be released at this time.

This is the 9th homicide in Pine Bluff this year.

The Pine Bluff Police Department is in the early stages of a homicide investigation following an incident on Thursday night.

Details are limited at this time, but Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley has confirmed that his office has been dispatched to the area of 23rd Avenue and Elm Street in response to the homicide.
