Pine Bluff Native Willie Roaf to be Featured in 2019 Original KingFest Celebration

Pine Bluff Native and National Football League Hall of Fame Member Willie Roaf has been tapped to  serve as the keynote speaker for Justice Sunday, on January 20, 2019.

He will also be the 35th annual Grand Parade Marshal for the Original KingFest Parade/Marade during activities scheduled for January 15-21, 2019 in Pine Bluff.

The Original KingFest Celebration honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., while promoting interracial cooperation, community service, and an appeal for mentors. All activities are open to the public and there is no charge to participate or attend events.

The 2019 PBICVR (Pine Bluff Interested Citizens for Voter Registration) Original KingFest Celebration theme is “From Nonviolence to No-Violence.” Participants who take part in the parade/marade are asked to develop and display messages on floats, cars, church buses, banners and signs related to the theme. Awards will be given for the most provocative banner, poster or float using the parade/marade theme.

Churches, social and civic organizations, youth groups, neighborhood watch groups, sororities, fraternities, school bands, businesses and elected officials are invited to join the PBICVR Original KingFest parade/marade which honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The deadline for parade applications is Thursday, January 17, 2019. Official 35th Annual PBICVR ORIGINAL KingFest Celebration (OKFC) SCHEDULE of EVENTS

Tuesday, January 15th @ 12 Noon – PBICVR Original KingFest Celebration Kick-off at the Pine Bluff Country Club, located at 46th Avenue and Cherry Streets in Pine Bluff.  The guest speaker will be Robin White, superintendent of the National Parks Service and Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site.  This is the 11th annual kick-off with both Pine Bluff Rotary Clubs. This meeting is open to the public.

Wednesday, January 16th – Student Pledge Against Violence Day at Pine Bluff, Watson Chapel and Dollarway School Districts.

Thursday, January 17th – PBICVR PEN OR PENCIL MLK Birthday Bash

Friday, January 18th @ 6:00pm – PBICVR Original KingFest Celebration Youth/Young Adult Gospel Extravaganza at New Saint Hurricane Missionary Baptist Church, located at 3319 South Ohio Street in Pine Bluff.

Saturday, January 19th – Original KingFest Celebration Youth/Adult Community Service Day in partnership with the City of Pine Bluff.

Sunday, January 20th @ 6:00pm – The Justice Sunday Commemoration Program to be held at Family Church Pine Bluff Campus, located at 2309 South Poplar Street in Pine Bluff.  The guest speaker will be Willie Roaf, Pine Bluff native and National Football League Hall of Fame football player.

Monday, January 21st @ 2:00pm – 35th Annual PBICVR ORIGINAL KingFest Celebration (Parade/March) 2019.  The theme is “From Nonviolence To No-Violence.”  The lineup time is 1:00pm at the Jefferson County Courthouse.  This year’s Grand Parade Marshal is Willie Roaf, NFL Hall of Fame Football Player and Pine Bluff native.

Fourth Annual MLK/Lorenzo Smith Battle of the Bands will add an additional trophy for elementary school children.
