A Pine Bluff man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly punched a police officer in the face while the officer was attempting to arrest him.

Marcus Hampton was taken into custody after officers were sent to a residence on Evergreen Drive in reference to a reported disturbance.

Deputy Prosecutor Caleb Conrad said residents at the house told police Hampton was “acting up threatening them and they feared for their safety.”
Reading from an affidavit from Detective Chris Wieland, Conrad then described what a witness reported.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $5,000 bond for Hampton after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Kearney also told Conrad that efforts are being made to arrange a mental examination for Hampton.
