A Pine Bluff man was arrested Saturday after he was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend.

Mario Marchbanks, 41, was taken into custody after police were called to 1911 E. Pullen St., at 10:25 p.m. in response to a reported battery.

During a court hearing Monday, Deputy Prosecutor Jill Reed explained the allegation against Marchbanks.

When Marchbanks was interviewed, he denied the allegations.

Reed said Marchbanks is currently out on bond stemming from drug related charges and is due to go on trial on those charges July 26.

Because of that, Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $5,000 cash only bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Marchbanks with first-degree criminal assault. He was ordered to have no contact with his girlfriend until the case is settled.
