George Austin, 37, has what Deputy Prosecutor Shana Alexander described as an “extensive criminal history” with five or six prior convictions including one for manslaughter for which he is currently on parole.

Alexander told the court the events that led to Austin being accused of the crime.

At Alexander’s request, Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $5,000 cash-only bond for Austin Thursday after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with two counts of first-degree battery, committing a terroristic act, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Austin will not be able to post that bond because the Department of Community Corrections has placed a parole hold on him and he will be held pending a hearing to determine if he should be sent back to prison to finish out his term.
