A $5,000 bond was set Monday for a Pine Bluff man accused of attempting to cash a check on the account of a person who died last year.

Jefferson County Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge John Flowers, 57, with forgery.

Reading from an affidavit from Detective Jason Boykin, Deputy Prosecutor Lisa McGriff said at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sgt. Joe Anderson was sent to Relyance Bank at 2511 S. Camden Road in response to a fraud report.

Boykin reported that the writing on the two checks was different, but Flowers said the same guy gave him both checks.

McGriff said Flowers has a prior felony conviction from 2011 and he was told to come back to court on March 3.
