Pine Bluff Council Sets New Committees and Priorities Under Mayor Flowers

The first meeting for Pine Bluff Mayor Vivian Flowers went off without a hitch Monday as the council members selected their committees for the next two years, and two rezoning ordinances were read for a second time.

Flowers was joined by new council members Yvonne Denton who was elected in Ward 2 and William Fells III, who was elected in Ward 3.

Incumbent Ward 1 Council Member Lloyd Holcomb Jr., who was elected to another term was asked after the meeting what he hoped the mayor and council would be able to accomplish this year and responded this way.

Council member Steven Mays will chair both the Ways and Means and Ordinances and Resolutions Committees, Holcomb will chair the Administration Committee, Council Member Glen Brown Jr., will chair the Public Safety Committee, Council Member Bruce Lockett will chair the Public Works Committee, Council Member Lanette Frazier will chair the Economic and Community Development Committee, Council Member Latisha Brunson will chair the Traffic and Aviation Committee, Denton will chair the Public Health and Welfare Committee and Fells will chair the Development and Planning Committee.

With the first meeting out of the way, Holcomb said it’s time to go to work.

Mayor Flowers also announced that a warming center will open in the Opportunity House at the Old First Ward School at 1305 E. 6th starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Friday. She said a weekend facility is in the works.
