The Pine Bluff Zebras have punched their ticket to the Class 5A State Basketball Championship game after defeating Sylvan Hills 75-49 on Tuesday, Nettleton 55-43 on Friday, and Greene County Tech 62-36 on Saturday.

The Z’s will play 5A South foe Lake Hamilton at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 9 at Bank OZK Arena.

Zebras head coach Billy Dixon spoke with Deltaplex News to talk about hosting the 5A State Tournament at the Pine Bluff Convention Center and more.

Dixon said that as the postseason approached his team took on a completely different attitude.

Throughout the tournament there were Pine Bluff players in the stands watching teams they would potentially match up against. Dixon said his team has been taught to evaluate other teams, though some of them stayed a little too late for his liking one night.

Pine Bluff and Lake Hamilton will match up for the third time this season. The Z’s have won both match ups going into the state title game, but Dixon knows that this will be a tough opponent.

Dixon said he isn’t surprised that Lake Hamilton made the championship game.

He also spoke about what his message is for his team this week and what they need to do in order to win the 5A State Championship.
