Two proposed ordinances sponsored by Pine Bluff City Council member William Fells were read for the first time during a brief meeting Tuesday night.
One of those dealt with regulating smoke and vape shops and restricting where they can locate and the second dealt with abandoned, wrecked, dismantled or inoperable motor vehicles.
There were no comments or questions about either proposed ordinance and they will be read for a second time when the council meets again on Feb. 3.
A proposed ordinance which was first introduced in December was approved without dissent. That ordinance rezoned property owned by the Economic Development Alliance of Jefferson on the east side of Hutchinson Street from residential to light industrial.
Nancy McNew, vice-president of Economic Development for the Economic Development Alliance for Jefferson County explained why the property was rezoned.
Two proposed ordinances dealing with making changes to existing ordinances were pulled by the sponsors, as was a resolution modifying an agreement with DePaul U.S.A. to operate the Opportunity House. Those will be put back on the agenda later.
