During the most recent Jefferson County Quorum Court meeting on September 20th, the court approved a resolution to condemn the existing cable plant in the Sulphur Springs Area of Jefferson County. Once that condemnation is completed, Pine Bluff Cable TV will be taking ownership replacing that plant with faster internet access and speeds through the COVID Relief Act. The act is in place to extend rural broadband connections to areas that would not or could not receive broadband connections.

Jeremy Galloway the General Manager for Pine Bluff Cable TV explained to Deltaplex News why the plant needed to be condemned and their plans for replacement.

Galloway also explained what fiber optic is and how it works.

That fiber-optic development will extend for 35 miles and coverage 1,044 homes. The county and Pine Bluff Cable will be working in partnership with a deadline to complete the upgrade by December 31, 2022.

To add to that, within the next year coax speeds will be increased in the areas of development from 250/20 which is 1 gigabyte of internet speed by 50 megabytes of uploading speed. This is a huge increase to recent years of 150/10.

Galloway also mentioned three other projects that are underway within the county and the City of Pine Bluff.
