Pine Bluff Police Chief Denise Richardson thinks her officers are doing a good job considering that the department is short of people, meaning each officer is having to do more.

Appearing on the Oldies 1013 morning show Thursday, Richardson backed up her statement with current numbers.

Morning show host Greg Horne said he has not seen the number of marked police cars he believes are needed and Richardson responded by saying that there are also a number of unmarked vehicles driven by detectives and narcotics officers on the streets daily.

She also explained that in some cases, officers have to respond to 911 emergency calls.

Horne said one of the reasons Pine Bluff officers leave for other jobs is the number of calls they respond to daily, compared to places like Conway where officers might answer one call a day.

Richardson said there have been 55 calls that have involved shootings since Jan. 1, and a total of nine homicides.
