The outgoing director of the Urban Renewal Agency said Monday that a lot of its programs are continuing.

Maurice Taggart has been the director for three years and will be leaving Friday to begin his own law firm. He will be replaced on an interim basis by current agency operations manager Chandra Griffin.

Taggart appeared on the Oldies 101.3 morning show and among the topics he covered was the abatement of burned out and condemned residential and commercial properties.

On another subject, Taggart said abatement work is continuing on the former Admiral Benbow Inn property on East Harding Avenue, which will be the site of a proposed go-cart track.

He also mentioned several buildings the agency owns in the downtown area where renovations have taken place.

Although he is stepping down as director, Taggart will remain on the payroll as a consultant for six months to help Griffin.
