The Black Pilots of America (BPA) are set to return to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, for the annual “Operation Skyhook” fly-in event at Grider Field, Pine Bluff Regional Airport.
The event begins on Friday, May 23, at 9:30 a.m. with a Welcome to Pine Bluff, followed by the Flour Bomb Drop competition at 11:15 a.m.
On Saturday, May 24, the Pilot Proficiency event starts at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, May 25, promises thrilling Balloon Burst and Spot Landing Competitions, also beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Throughout the weekend, BPA members will offer free “Young Eagle” flights to children, providing the opportunity to experience flying firsthand, weather permitting, until 5:00 p.m.
The weekend will culminate in an awards banquet on Sunday evening, where trophies will be awarded for outstanding flying achievements. The event will also recognize the chapter with the highest points and present a “Top Gun Award” to the pilot with the highest overall score.
The Pine Bluff Advertising and Promotion Commission has supported the event with a $17,500 grant for the 2025 Operation Skyhook.
Sheri Storie, the Commission’s executive director, noted the event’s positive impact on the local economy and community spirit.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Black Pilots of America back to Pine Bluff for Operation Skyhook. This event not only bolsters our local economy, but also strengthens community ties and fosters a spirit of pride among residents,” said Storie.
All events are open to the public at no cost, allowing everyone to enjoy the excitement of aviation. The Grider Field Restaurant will be open during specified hours throughout the weekend to accommodate attendees.
