One person was killed and a second injured in a two-vehicle traffic accident in Malvern in the early morning hours Wednesday.

According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, Terrance Allen, 21, of Hope was a passenger in a 2021 Prius driven by Corey Lewis, 21, also of Hope, that was eastbound on I-30 at the 90-mile marker when the vehicle stopped in the outside traffic lane and was hit by a 2016 Freightliner tractor trailer that was also eastbound.

After the impact, both vehicles left the roadway. Allen was killed and Lewis was injured and taken to a hospital in Hot Springs.

The accident was reported at 4:01 a.m. and the death was the 218th so far this year on the state’s highways.
