One person was killed and seven injured in a three-vehicle accident in Lonoke County Friday morning.

According to a preliminary report, Terry Newman, 60, of Lonoke was westbound on RKANSAS Highway 165 when the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu he was driving ran off he roadway to the  right, then reentered the highway. A 2014 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Jimmy Williams, 61, of Lonoke that was eastbound swerved to the left to avoid the vehicle driven by Newman and the passenger side of Newman’s vehicle sideswiped the passenger side of Williams vehicle.

Newman’s vehicle then hit a 2009 Toyota Camry driven by Ezekiel Kendrick, 28, of Lonoke head-on in the eastbound lane.

A passenger in Newman’s car, Travis Newman, 51, of Lonoke, two passengers in Williams car, Elizabeth Russell, 19 and Elizabeth Spires, 39, Kendrick and two passengers in his  car, Cheyenne Kendrick, 25, and a minor, no age listed, were all injured and taken to UAMS, Baptist Hospital and Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

The accident was reported at 5 a.m. on Highways 165 and 161 at Scott.

The death was the 531st so far this year on the state’s highways.
