A one-vehicle accident in rural Lee County Thursday resulted in the death of one man.
According to a preliminary report, Floydie Lee Billups, 70, was southbound on U.S. 79 when the Freightliner tractor-trailer he was driving left the roadway on the right side and when Billups attempted to reenter the highway, the load shifted and caused the tractor-trailer to overturn.
Billups was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident was reported at 2:20 p.m. and the death was the 541st so far this year on the state’s highways.
