A one-vehicle accident just after midnight in rural Polk County resulted in the death of an Oklahoma man.
According to a preliminary report, Michael Richard Barnes, 87, of Henryetta, Okla., was northbound on U.S. Highway 71 when the 2001 Dodge Ram he was driving ran off the roadway in a straight section of the highway and collided with trees.
He was taken to a hospital at Mena where he died.
The accident was reported at 12:38 a,m, and the death was the 400th so far this year on the state’s highways.
