Lois Hildreth Johnson, 87
1937-2024

Lois Hildreth Johnson, 87, of Pine Bluff, fondly known to many as “Grandma, Lolo, Loto, or Gigi,” passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on August 16, 1937, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to William Wilson and Mattie Leah Chidester Hildreth, Sr., Lois received her early education in her hometown.

She lived a remarkable life filled with love, raising five children, and proudly witnessing the lives of her 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Lois retired after many dedicated years of service at the Cotton Belt Railroad. In her retirement, she found great joy in entertaining friends and family, sharing her home and her heart with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her door was always open, whether you needed a hug, a kind word, or a good laugh. She had a lively spirit, and while she loved to chat, Lois was also an incredible listener. Her unwavering commitment to her family and responsibilities was evident in all that she did. She carried her mischievous sense of humor throughout her life and was endlessly generous with her time, love, and everything she had.

Lois had a deep love for her Pine Bluff Zebras Class of ’55 reunions, dedicating countless hours to keeping the spirit of her class alive. In her younger years, she was the life of the party, always dancing and making others laugh while playing games and spending quality time with her loved ones. One of her greatest joys was making videos of her family, capturing precious memories that they would later gather together to watch, reminiscing and laughing at the moments she preserved with so much love. Lois also had a passion for bird watching and could spend hours enjoying the beauty of nature in her own backyard. She found relaxation and pleasure in completing jigsaw puzzles, patiently piecing them together in the same meticulous and loving way she handled life. In addition to being a devoted family matriarch, Lois loved thrift shopping and never met a stranger. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and find joy in the simplest of treasures.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers James Robert "Cotton" Hildreth, Major General, USAF (Ret), W.W. "Red" Hildreth, Jr., and sisters, Ruth Ellen Hildreth, Martha Hildreth "Mott" Wasson and Leah "Puddie" Harris, her beloved husband Ernest “Slick” Johnson, her son Randall Hollis “Randy” Landreth, Sr. (Pam), and her daughter Robin Landreth Baldwin.

She is survived by her children, Robert H. “Bobby” Landreth, Ruth Landreth Dempsey, Paul Lee Landreth Jr. (Brandi), Brent E. Johnson (Debbie), Scott Johnson (Paula); her 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Lois will be deeply missed but leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and generosity that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She loved the Lord and looked forward to her heavenly homecoming and spoke of it often.
