1926-2024
Mr. Lee Andrew Moore was born June 30, 1926 in Grady, AR to the late Gaston Moore and Ella Mae Thompson Harris. His home going passage was October 25, 2024.
Lee attended Pine Hill and Merrill School and received his High School Education at St. Peters Catholic High School in Pine Bluff, AR.
He also attended AM&N now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. He was a veteran of World War II and was stationed in the Philippines Island of Gifu and Osaka. His tour of duty also allowed him to visit Manila.
He worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal and retired January 2005 with 58 years, 10 months and 20 days of service. He was a Distribution Facilities Specialist for the Directorate of Material Management Storage Division. During his numerous years of service, he received many letters and certificates of appreciation. In 1987, Lee Moore was awarded the Martin Luther King, Jr. Special Achievement Award. His accomplishments also included several monetary awards such as $1000 in 1992, for Sustained Superior Performance. In 1996 he was recognized and received a Capitol Citation from the Secretary of State of Arkansas, Sharon Priest. These awards extended to include the Arsenal Commander’s Highest Award the Double Coin. He worked at the Watson Memorial Library at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff as a Library Assistant from 1967 up to 1997. He resigned. He was asked to return in 2001 as a Library Support Assistant. He resigned January 4, 2019. In 1993, he received a personal invitation and calendar of public events to attend and participate in the inauguration of William Jefferson Clinton as President of The United States and Albert Gore as Vice President. He was on the Board of Directors at the Pine Bluff Arsenal Federal Credit Union from 1994 to December 2014 until he resigned. On his 90th birthday, he received a birthday card from President Obama.
In 1947 he was ordained a Deacon by the late Rev. L. E. Highshaw at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. He served as Superintendent of Sunday School, organized and directed the Young Adult Choir, Sunday School Teacher, Secretary of the Church and Director of Baptist Training School. In 1965 he joined Damascus Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. John Nolen. He was Choir Director over 30 years and the late Sadie Harris was the Pianist/Organist until he resigned in 2002.
Family and special friends enjoyed his three-layer coconut, lemon, pineapple, pecan chocolate and jelly cakes. Also, his prune, rum and coconut pound cakes as well as his own version of Fresh Apple Carrot cakes all made from scratch. He became lazy in later years and began baking 9 x 15 sheet cakes. Can't forget his peach and apple cobblers and his cornbread dressing was the best!!! Everything he made was delicious.
His life involved music in church for well over 50 years. In the year of 1959, he was the Choir Director for The Central District Association, which covered Pine Bluff to Stuttgart, Arkansas. During his tenure as Director, the late Ms. Fitzpatrick of First Baptist Church Stuttgart was the District Pianist. In 1962, he directed the Community Choir and voices were heard every Sunday evening on KOTN radio station for many years.
He is preceded in death by two sons Lauretz Andrew Moore, Reginald Kevin Moore; three brothers and two sisters. He leaves to cherish loving memories his wife Jessie Robinson Moore whom he married in 1947, sons Romeo Moore (Connie) Keller, TX, and Terrance Moore, Dallas, TX. Daughters Berdina Bonds, Tampa, FL, Vanessa Collins (John) Fordyce, AR and a Granddaughter Chanda Moore, Tampa, FL. Eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. Sister Erma Moore, Kansas City, MO. Jimmy Dale Manning, Patsy Milligan, the late Sadie Harris, the late Minnie Green and Bettye Dockery were like Family to him and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Damascus Missionary Baptist Church, Pine Bluff, AR by Pastor Larry Battles. Interment at Graceland Cemetery, Pine Bluff, AR. His body will lie in-state from 10:15 a.m. until service time. Services entrusted to Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff, AR.
