Janis Hudson Thornton, age 75, of Malvern, died Monday, March 10, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs. She was born in Hot Springs on April 30, 1949 to the late Bernard Hudson and Roberta Price Hudson. Growing up in Willow, Arkansas, she attended Carthage Public Schools. She earned her EMT certification in Glenwood, Arkansas, and furthered her education in hospital operations in Mississippi. Janis was a member of the Assembly of God Church, and taught Missionettes for serveral years. She was an avid deer hunter and loved basketball and softball. Janis raised three generations of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and loved spending time with them all. She worked for Levi Strauss prior to becoming a nurse’s aid, working in that capacity from 1974 to 1983 at Hot Spring County Memorial Hospital. Janis finished her career as a surgical technician at National Park Medical Center, after 20 years of service. She was the widow of the late John William Thornton, to whom she was married on October 23, 1984. He preceded her in death in 2016.
She is survived by her children, Toni Reynolds, Tina Morgan, Hayley Thornton (Curtis), Heather Thornton, Lexi Thornton, Boe, and Levi Thornton, all of Malvern; her grandchildren, Niles Reynolds (Mandy), Nicole Reynolds (Emmett), Jared Reynolds, Logan Morgan and Chase Daniels (Maggie); and by 12 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will begin at 1:00 Saturday afternoon, March 15, 2025, in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00, officiated by Brother Tony Burrow. Interment will follow in Alford Cemetery.
Pallbearers are: Niles Reynolds, Curtis Shannon, Jared Reynolds, Nick Reynolds, Chase Daniels, Emmett Carver.
