1944-2024
James Madison “Jimmy” Matthews Jr. 79 of Dumas passed away September 27, 2024, in Dumas, Arkansas. He was born September 29, 1944, at Desha County Hospital in Dumas to the late James Madison and Annie Mae Locke Matthews.
Jimmy attended First Assembly of God Church in Dumas and was a business owner of Matthews Inc. for 48 years. He was also a former State Representative from 1968-1971, former member of Arkansas Oil Marketers Association, Dumas Lions Club and was a 32nd degree Mason. He would always shake your hand with a peppermint in hand to pass along “you are someone special and I want you to leave with a sweet taste”.
Survivors are his wife Marilyn Matthews of Dumas, Arkansas, three daughters Faye Ann Moreland (Heath) of Dumas, Arkansas, Mary Jane Baker (Jefferson) of Dumas, Arkansas and Amanda Matthews (Nick Ward) of Benton, Arkansas, one sister Jane Ann Matthews Evans of Midland, Texas, six grandchildren Justin Moreland, Zack Moreland, Nick Moreland, Jaxon Matthews, Addie Matthews-Ward and Alex Matthews-Ward and four great-grandchildren Landon Moreland, Chase Moreland, Paisley Morgan and Willow Holley.
Visitation will be Friday, October 4, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 pm at First Assembly of God Church and service Saturday, October 5, 2024, First Assembly of God Church at 11:00 a.m.
Memorials may be made in memory of Jimmy to 1st Assembly of God Church, 1A Melrose St., Dumas, Arkansas.
