Mrs. Dorothy Deloris Highsmith was born May 23, 1945, in Thornton, Arkansas to the late LeRoy and Vertilee Chambers. She accepted Christ as the head of her life in 1992 under the leadership of Elder Frank Walker at Straight Street C.O.G.I.C. Dorothy was a faithful and committed member during her time serving Christ. She held many titles which were: Youth Sunday School Teacher, Assistant Adult Sunday School Teacher, and was a member on the Board of Trustee. She attended church at Marks Memorial C.O.G.I.C until her health failed her under the leadership of Elder Vincent Stroud.
Dorothy lived her entire life in Thornton, Arkansas where she attended school and raised her children and grandchildren.
Dorothy worked many jobs but spent the remaining of her work history at Georgia Pacific in Fordyce, Arkansas. Where she worked 40 years as a Dryer Feeder on Dryer #1. Upon retirement she spent her free time going to church, fishing, being with family, and working in her puzzle books.
Dorothy met and married the late Elmer Barrett at an early age; entering this union with one child and four children were born. After her divorce from her first marriage, later in life she married the late Columbus Highsmith, and a loving extended family was formed.
Dorothy is preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Barrett, and one son, Gary Barrett; four brothers: Melvin Jordan, L.C. Chambers, Oliver Chambers, and Benny Lee Chambers; five sisters: Hazel Chambers, Mildred Chambers, Joyce Thompson, Tracy Chambers, Iola "Louise" Wilson, and Diane Jones, and one son-in-law Thomas Belin.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories, two sons: Robert (Lanett) Chambers and Stevie Barrett; one daughter, Peggy Belin all of Thornton, Arkansas - one sister Cindy Jones of Bearden, Arkansas - 9 grandchildren: Keith Barrett, Jessica (Michael) Monroe both of Thornton, Arkansas, Bobby Chambers, Shronda Barrett, and Christopher (Megan) Owens all of Fordyce, Arkansas, LaKeea (Melique) Frazier of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Safarie Barrett of Marion, Iowa, Gary Coleman, and Michael Coleman both of Topeka, Kansas - 11 grandchildren: Brianna, Kendra, Demarion, Ja'Tavia, Jaiden, Bentlee, Langston, Karter, Keithon, Kenley, and Bexlee; one uncle and one aunt, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2025, at Brown-Williams Funeral Home Fordyce, AR. Funeral Service 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Thornton, AR by Elder Frank Walker. Interment in Enon Cemetery Fordyce, AR by Brown-Williams Funeral Home of Fordyce, AR.
