1944-2024
Dora Carolyn (Arthur) Cox, wife of Floyd Earl Cox, and mother of Sloane, Jason, and Jeremy, was born November 13, 1944, and died September 26, 2024.
Carolyn was born in Hector, Arkansas, the last child of Joe and Nona (Whitworth) Arthur’s eleven children, including triplets, who died a short time after birth. At the age of 15, she moved to DeWitt. She graduated from DeWitt High School in 1962 and attended Harding College in Searcy for a year. She married Floyd Earl Cox in Searcy, and they were married for 61 years.
Carolyn was a long-time member of DeWitt Church of Christ.
Carolyn is survived by Floyd and their three children: daughter Sloane Grelen (Jay); Jason Cox; and Jeremy Cox (Tina); four grandchildren: Madison Mares; twins Rachel and Ryan Mares; and Carlee Currie (Gage); and one great-granddaughter, Savvy Currie, numerous nieces, and nephews.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents; siblings Clarence, John, Jean King, Tommy, Tulon, Bobby, Zula Haliburton, Archie, Artie, and Arlie Arthur.
During her time at Harding, Carolyn typed manuscripts for Dr. James D. Bales, an author and well-known Bible professor. In DeWitt, she worked for three years as social secretary for Hattie Boone Black. Her life career was as a devoted wife and mother. After her children were grown, she worked as a substitute teacher at DeWitt High School.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 28, at Essex Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2 at Essex. The burial will follow at Thompson Cemetery in Dewitt.
