Noel Gallagher was a fan of Metallica‘s cover of the Oasis classic “Don’t Look Back in Anger.”

The metal legends performed the song in October 2017 during their show at the Manchester Arena in England. The venue had just recently reopened after the May 2017 terrorist bombing, which killed 22 people as they were leaving an Ariana Grande concert.

With Oasis being from Manchester, “Don’t Look Back in Anger” became something of a rallying cry for the community following the attack.

Speaking to NME, ‘Tallica drummer Lars Ulrich says that Gallagher sent him a “very appreciative text” following their performance.

“It was quite a moment obviously getting all the fans singing along,” Ulrich shares. “It was emotional and felt like the right thing to do for Manchester.”

Ulrich is a big Oasis fan, and even filled in as their lighting operator during a show in New Jersey in the mid-’90s.

“I fell in love with the music, so I flew to see them play in New Jersey,” Ulrich recalls. “One thing led to another and I found myself tapping along to the sounds on the lighting board — I guess there were a man short and it was great fun and obviously lots of crazy shenanigans and stories.”
