A new Chris Cornell covers album, titled No One Sings Like You Anymore, is out today.

The 10-track release was recorded and finished back in 2016, and includes the late Soundgarden frontman’s takes on songs recorded by Janis Joplin, John Lennon, Guns N’ Roses and Prince, among others. Speaking with ABC Audio, Vicky Cornell, Chris’ widow, shares that she wanted to release the record now to help provide some joy at the end of a very difficult year.

“I, for one, felt this desperate need to celebrate this Christmas with Chris, and at the same time, give something back to his fans,” Vicky says. “I am so, so grateful to them. They’ve been so supportive of me, of my family, our children. They’ve stayed that way throughout the most tragic and difficult of times.”

Upon listening to No One Sings Like You Anymore, that joy in Chris’ inimitable voice is immediately apparent. And even though it consists of covers, Vicky feels Chris’ song selection helps bring you into what he was feeling at the time.

“It also gives you a glimpse into his personal choices…what resonated with him,” Vicky says. “It’s kind of like a glimpse into his world.”

Vicky admits that the decision to release the album was difficult, especially since it’s such a fully completed work with “zero” production added posthumously.

“He sequenced it, he mastered it,” Vicky shares. “This was supposed to come out with a date, with a tour.”

“It’s bittersweet, but it gives me joy, and it’s somewhat cathartic for me in many ways,” she adds. “I can definitely say that I’m really excited to share this and for everyone to hear what he was working on. I just hope everyone loves it as much as I do.”
