Nirvana‘s Nevermind has now officially spent a third of its life on the Billboard 200.
The latest edition of the all-genre album chart — which combines sales and streaming data — shows that the landmark grunge classic has now held a spot on the ranking for a total of 520 weeks. Given that each year consists of 52 weeks, our rudimentary math skills conclude that Nevermind has now charted on the Billboard 200 for a full decade.
Nevermind is now one of seven albums that have spent a whole 10 years on the Billboard 200, along with Pink Floyd‘s The Dark Side of the Moon, Bob Marley and the Wailers‘ Legend, Journey‘s Greatest Hits, Metallica‘s Black Album, Guns N’ Roses‘ Greatest Hits and Eminem‘s Curtain Call.
The Dark Side of the Moon holds the record for most weeks spent on the Billboard 200, with 958. No other album has over 700 weeks.
Nevermind, which was released September 24, 1991, will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year. The RIAA Diamond-certified record turned Kurt Cobain and company into worldwide rock stars thanks to the hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” as well as other classics including “Lithium,” “In Bloom” and “Come as You Are.”
