School district says student seen on Watson Chapel campus with a firearm Wednesday afternoonFri, January 28, 2022 by StaffSHARE NOW HomeLocal NewsSchool district says student seen on Watson Chapel campus with a firearm Wednesday afternoonWatson Chapel has addressed a situation with a ninth grade student they say was on campus with a firearm at approximately 4:30 p.m. Wednesday after school dismissed.In a release the district says that Thursday evening the student made a social media post that referenced bringing a weapon to school, and that the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was notified.According to the release the student did not show up for school on Thursday, and stated that metal detectors were in use on campus Wednesday, and there is no reason to believe the student was in possession of the weapon on campus during school hours or any other time prior to the incident that occurred around 4:30 p.m.The district also stated in the release that their first priority is the safety and security of its students, teachers, and staff, and they will continue working to ensure that all security issues or potential security threats are properly monitored and reported.There was no mention in the release regarding contact between the student who is alleged to have had the firearm on campus and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
