A student at Watson Chapel Junior High School was shot and killed last spring and another student was arrested and is being charged in that incident.

The superintendent at that time was Dr. Jerry Guess, who has since retired.

Fast forward a few months and on the second day of the new school year, a gun was found in a vehicle on the campus of the high school.

New Superintendent Dr. Andrew Curry, who has been on the job since July 1, appeared on the Oldies 101.3 morning show Friday and talked about that incident.

While the legal process plays out, the student, as well as another student who was driving the car where the gun was found, face a school disciplinary process.

Curry also talked about security in the district.

In addition to the director of security, the district has also hired a private security firm to man checkpoints including metal detectors, Curry said.
