The Lincoln County Quorum Court was told Monday that the new Lincoln County Detention Center is tentatively slated to open Nov. 16.

Lincoln County Judge Buddy Earnest said the telephone company is supposed to finish installing phone lines Nov. 15 and the dispatch radios will have to be moved as well. He said the county is planning a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the first day of operation.

In other business, Earnest said the county is expected to hear in November if a grant that it had applied for would be approved. That grant would make fiber optic service available to county residents. Earnest said the county would use Swyft Fiber, the same company that is installing the service in Star City.

Earnest also said when the service becomes available in Star City, the county will try it because it would save a lot of money on phone bills. He said the county is currently paying $1,700 a month and the new service would cost about $300.
