Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson on Friday announced another 838 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the state, bringing the cumulative total to 59,538. Of those, 5,496 are active cases.

Since Monday, a total of 3,009 new cases have been reported.

At his daily COVID-19 briefing, the Governor said 181 of the new cases are from prisons, with 123 of those being at the Varner Unit of the Department of Corrections. He said the new cases were discovered as a result of mass testing of inmates and staff.

Of the active cases, 225 are in nursing homes, 668 in correctional facilities and the remaining 4,603 were in community settings.

There are currently 407 people hospitalized, that’s 26 fewer than on Thursday and 17 new deaths have been reported bringing the state’s total to 756.

In the past 24 hours, 6,380 tests were conducted.
