The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has approved the construction of a boat ramp to Bayou Bartholomew at its intersection with Arkansas Highway 277 in Drew County, according to the McGehee-Dermott Times-News.

In its Jan. 27 edition, the newspaper reported that the commission unanimously approved the use of Marine Fuel Tax funds, with the costs of the project not to exceed $180,000.

The newspaper quoted Kevin Mullen, the Chief of Operations for AGFE as saying the project was recommended to take advantage of current work that is being done on the bridge over the bayou at this location.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation is planning to renovate the bridge,” Mullen said.

Marine fuel taxes are collected on gasoline and diesel fuel used in boats in the state.

Bayou Bartholomew begins near Pine Bluff and flows 359 river miles to the Ouachita River in Sterlington, Louisiana. It is considered the longest bayou in the world.
