The Mcgehee Dermott Times Newspaper released an article about the retrial of a McGehee man accused of murdering his sister-in-law announcing that the retrial is set to begin this week.

According to court records, a Desha County Jury will hear the case against 36-year-old Omar Sharif Foster for the second time. Foster originally went to trial in March of this year, but the jury was unable to reach a verdict leaving the judge to declare a mistrial.

Foster was charged with first-degree murder in connection to the March 2020 death of then 34-year-old Tracey Davis. At the time, Foster told authorities that he had visited his sisters-in-law on Ashley street home the night before, but had left around 3 am before returned at 8:30 am to discover her body.

A search of the woods near the victim’s home led police to discover a bloody sweater the suspect was seen wearing earlier that day. Police also discovered evidence in the victim’s home that the suspect had attempted to clean up the crime scene with bleach and pine cleaner.

Foster’s retrial is set to begin Tuesday.
