A 42-year-old Bauxite man was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Benton Monday, the ninth person to die this month while riding a motorcycle or ATV.
According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, Johnny Griffin, 42, was southbound on Sharon Road on a Harley Davidson motorcycle when a 2020 Audi pulled out in front of him. Griffin had the right of way at the time.
The report said the motorcycle struck the front passenger quarter panel of the car and Griffin laid the bike over, causing it to slide into a stop sign and AT&T phone box before coming to rest in a yard. Griffin was taken to Saline Memorial Hospital where he died of his injuries.
The accident was reported at 1:59 a.m. and the death was the 449th so far this year on the state’s highways.
