At its most recent meeting, the Monticello City Council voted to increase the amount resident pay for solid waste pickup.
In 2021, the council voted to raise the rate for residential pickup to $12.13 and under the recently approved ordinance, those rates will go up to $13.77 for one pickup per week for residential customers. Rates for commercial customers will go from $36.75 for once a week pickup to $41.16. The fee for additional pickups will be $20.44.
An ordinance to increase sewer rates was tabled because of a typographical error in the contract that did not match numbers in the ordinance.
The Advance Monticelonian newspaper reported that two rate increases in sewer rates have occurred since 1949, one in 2004 and a second in 2020.
