The Monticello Advertising and Promotion Commission is considering a change in the company hired to put up Christmas lights.

According to the Advanced M0nticellonian newspaper, the company currently doing the work, SBC Lights recommended Southern Magnolia Landscaping, LLC to the commission.

The newspaper reported that Southern Magnolia Landscaping has attended the same training as SBC Lights, is closer to Monticello and has a bigger crew. The contract price for the Christmas light service is $19.5000 and a $9,500 deposit b must be made in August to secure the4 contract.

The commission also discussed the Independence Celebration at the Sports Complex and the commission reportedly agreed  that even with “less than desirable weather” the event was well attended.

Also work on the welcome signs at the four entrances to Monticello are ongoing. The newspaper reported that Kellum Electric has been hired to make improvements but is waiting on Entergy Arkansas to get the go-ahead.

The commission meets on the fourth Monday of each month at the Hampton Inn.
