Now we know what Metallica was rehearsing for.

Last week, the metal legends shared a video of the four members playing together in the same room for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Now, they’ve announced that they’ll be playing their first show of 2020.

Of course, the concert won’t be your traditional live performance. Instead, Metallica will be filming a new show at an undisclosed location, which will then screen at your local drive-in theater as part of the Encore Drive-In Nights series. Metallica is the first rock band to take part in Encore Drive-In Nights, which has been mainly showcasing country acts.

“We’ve been rehearsing at HQ for a show that will be shot specially for the drive-ins at a location nearby later this week,” Metallica explains. “Then we’ll pass it off to our award-winning production team to then be edited and mixed at the highest standards possible to be beamed into your cars from the big screen.”

The concert will premiere on August 29. Tickets go on sale this Friday, August 14, at noon local time. Members of Metallica’s Fifth Member fan club will have access to a pre-sale beginning Wednesday, August 12 at noon local time.

By the way, tickets will come with digital downloads of Metallica’s upcoming S&M2 album.
