Fresh off celebrating the 35th anniversary of their iconic album Master of Puppets, Metallica brought the heat to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Wednesday night to perform their song “Battery.”
Of course, host Stephen Colbert was delighted he played a hand in celebrating the band’s big anniversary moment as he introduced the band, being beamed in from an empty sound stage.
The track starts off with James Hetfield strumming the acclaimed opening bars before Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo dive head first into banging track.
While the band was unable to physically rock out on the show, they made up for it by getting experimental with their feed, which has the frames breaking up before shifting to a new camera to record their high octane performance.
At the time of its release, Master of Puppets became Metallica’s highest-charting album, and has since been certified six-times platinum. In propelling thrash to new heights and newer audiences — Master of Puppets is considered one of the most important and influential records in metal history
Master of Puppets was even added to Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry in 2016 in celebration of its significance.
