Metallica‘s 30th anniversary Black Album celebration will also come with a visual component.

The metal legends have announced The Black Album in Black & White, a photo book capturing rare and previously unpublished images that were shot by acclaimed rock photographer Ross Halfin during the recording process and tour behind ‘Tallica’s classic 1991 album.

The photographs are accompanied by introductions written by James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett, as well as then-bassist Jason Newsted and current member Robert Trujillo.

“By the time the songs and the recording were coming together, the confidence level was at an all-time high and we felt better than ever about who we were and how we viewed ourselves with regards to being photographed,” says Ulrich.

The Black Album in Black & White will be released October 19. You can pre-order it now via Metallica.com.

Earlier this week, Metallica announced a deluxe reissue of The Black Album in honor of the RIAA Diamond-certified record, as well The Metallica Blacklist, an all-star tribute compilation that includes 53 covers by artists ranging from Miley Cyrus to Royal Blood and Ghost.

Both the reissue and the tribute album will be released September 10.
