Megadeth has released a statement in regard to bassist David Ellefson, who this week admitted to having “private, adult interactions” with a woman other than his wife.

“We are aware of the recent statement regarding David Ellefson, and are watching developments closely,” the metal band writes.

In a since-deleted Instagram post Monday, Ellefson responded to allegations of interacting with and grooming an underage girl, after footage of video calls he’d made leaked online. While he confirmed that the calls did indeed happen, he denied that the other person was underage.

“As much as it’s not something I’m proud of, these were private, adult interactions that were taken out of context and manipulated to inflict maximum damage to my reputation, my career and family,” Ellefson wrote.

The post was also accompanied by a statement from who, Ellefson says, is the woman involved. She wrote that she was “never” underage during the interactions, and she was “always a consenting adult.”

“As it relates to creativity and business, we are all familiar with one another,” Megadeth’s statement reads. “However, there are clearly aspects of David’s private life that he has kept to himself.”

“As this situation unfolds, it is important that all voices be heard clearly and respectfully,” the band concludes. “We look forward to the truth coming to light.”
