According to The Mcgehee Dermott Times-News Newspaper, A Mcgehee man is facing multiple felony charges after police discovered drugs and a gun during a traffic stop on New Year’s Day.

Det. Tyler Perry with the McGehee Police Department said he made a traffic stop on C.B. King Drive around 2:53 a.m. and said that when he approached the vehicle he detected the odor of marijuana.

Sgt. Mark Harmon arrived at the scene as backup and witnessed a jar with what appeared to be marijuana residue inside the car. At that time, the driver identified as Gregory Gardner 33 was arrested and taken into custody.

A search of the vehicle by Perry, Harmon, and Officer Damian Durham, led to the discovery of a large jar containing over 23 ounces of marijuana, a handgun, six ecstasy pills, and digital scales.

As officers were moving Gardner’s handcuffs so that his arms could be in front of his body to allow him to make a phone call, police said the suspect took off running. Perry and Durham pursued Gardner across Main Street where he jumped over the viaduct railing. Officers continued the foot pursuit onto Pierce Street where Gardner was apprehended.

Gardner is facing charges of fleeing on foot, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of drugs and firearms, possession of schedule VI drugs with the purpose to deliver, possession of schedule I/II with the purpose to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license, and driving without headlights.

Garnder is in custody at the Mcgehee jail pending his first court appearance.
