The City of McGehee has issued guidelines for its storm warning system.

According to the McGehee Dermott Times-News, some residents have asked for clarification on when and how the warning sirens are activated.

Police Chief Scott Williams said there are four warning sirens located around the city and their purpose is to notify residents in the event of the possibility of severe weather.

Williams said that going forward, the sirens will only be activated when the National Weather Service predicts that a storm system is strong enough to produce a tornado.

“If you hear the sirens, that means McGehee is under a tornado warning,” Williams said.
