A 48-year-old Jefferson County man was arrested Monday after he allegedly stabbed his daughter during an altercation.

William Lawrence was taken into custody by a sheriff’s deputy after the deputy responded to a reported stabbing at a residence on Brixey Road.

The female victim had a wound to her right hand and identified Lawrence as the person who had stabbed her.

Sheriff’s Investigator Kaylon McDaniel reported that Lawrence attempted to flee and actively resisted arrest before he was subdued.

Deputy Prosecutor Carol Billings said the victim told a deputy that her father and brother had gotten

into an altercation and Lawrence, the father, got a kitchen knife and tried to cut her brother. She said she tried to intervene, and Lawrence cut her instead. Billings also said Lawrence had been drinking heavily.

On Wednesday Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $5,000 bond for Lawrence after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with second-degree domestic battery. Lawrence was ordered to have no contact with the victim and the Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent him.
