A $25,000 bond was set Friday for a Pine Bluff man accused of shooting another man during an altercation Thursday.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Charles Sanders, 87, with first-degree battery.

Reading from a probable cause affidavit from Detective Chris Wieland, Deputy Prosecutor Shana Alexander said police were sent to a reported shooting at Lone Oak Drive and Shannon Road at about 9:00 am where they found a male had been shot and a suspect later identified as Sanders at the scene.

Alexander said there were witnesses to the incident and she told the court what they said.

The victim was taken to Jefferson Regional Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Sanders said he would hire his own attorney and was ordered to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled.
