A Pine Bluff man was arrested in Monday night after he allegedly pointed a gun at two people and threatened to kill them.
Willie Word, 72, was taken into custody after police were sent to a residence in the 500 block of Park Place in response to a reported domestic incident.
A female at the house told police she was talking to her son when Word walked into the room and told her to shut and said she talked too much.
Deputy Prosecutor Beth Carson said the son told police he spoke up for his mother and told Word not to disrespect her. He said Word pointed a handgun at him and threatened to “blow his brains out.”
Detective Natalie McCool reported that the son said his mother got between himself and Word and Word waived the gun around and said he would kill both of them.
After the mother and Word went into another room, he allegedly pointed a second handgun at the mother. Both guns were recovered, and Carson said one of the guns had reportedly been stolen and police were still trying to verify that.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $25,000 bond for Word Tuesday after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault on a family or household member.
Word said he would hire his own attorney and was ordered to have no contact with the victims until the case is settled.
