Circuit Judge-elect Mac Norton, who defeated Therese Free on Tuesday during the non-partisan Judicial General Election said Wednesday that event though the election is completed, certifying the official results is still a few days away.

Norton won the Division Three Circuit Judge’s race in the 11th Judicial District-West, which includes Jefferson and Lincoln Counties, collecting 10,080 votes to 9,503 votes for Free. He said he plans to be sworn-in Jan. 1.

He appeared on the Oldies 101.3 morning show and said he wanted to take his 42 years of experience as an attorney and “put it on the bench to serve Jefferson and Lincoln Counties.”

As a circuit judge, Norton will deal with family issues such as divorce, child custody, adoptions, mental competency issues and others and agreed that this responsibility frequently involves a lot of emotion.
