A Little Rock man was killed in a one-vehicle accident near Redfield Monday.
According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, Terry Lester Mitchell, 43, was northbound on Interstate 530 near the 18-mile marker and was negotiating a curve when he drove onto the left shoulder, then overcorrected the steering and causing the vehicle to slide across the south lane of traffic and into a ditch where the vehicle hit a tree and came to rest facing west.
Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley pronounced Mitchell dead at the scene at 7:59 a.m.
The accident was reported at 6:52 a.m. and Trooper Michael Whitman reported that the weather was clear and the roadway dry at the time.
The death was the 537th on the state’s highways so far this year.
