The Chris Cornell Estate has premiered a previously unreleased cover of the Guns N’ Roses song “Patience” in honor of what would’ve been the late Soundgarden frontman’s 56th birthday.

The cover, which Cornell recorded in 2016 while he was teaching his daughter Toni how to play the song, is available now for digital download. It’s also accompanied by a video produced by Toni along with Cornell’s son, Christopher, which you can watch now via ChrisCornell.com.

“One of Chris’ engineers recently reminded me of Chris’ recordings from sessions in 2016,” explains Cornell’s widow, Vicky Cornell. “‘Patience’ was one of them. Listening to it again after so many years it was hauntingly beautiful; it brought it all back in a rush of bittersweet memories

“The memory of your smile still makes my heart, broken as it is, beat as fast as the first time we met,” she continues. “We love you, Chris, Happy Birthday.”

Along with the cover, Toni and Christopher have launched the Stop the Stigma campaign, which aims to end the stigma surrounding addiction. Stop the Stigma will be coming to high schools as an educational pilot program, and Toni and Christopher are also hosting a podcast devoted to the subject.
