Lincoln County Judge Buddy Earnest told the Quorum Court that cooper pipes In the old Health Department building had burst during the recent snow and cold weather, causing major flood and water damage.

The Lincoln Ledger newspaper reported that the building was being used to store courthouse documents, for class space for GED classes through the University of Arkansas at Monticello, and as office space for the Veterans Affairs Office.

Earnest said he would find space for the Veteran’s Affairs Office at the OEM site at the Civic Center but did not have space for the GED classes and told UAM they would have to find space for the classes.

The Quorum Court gave Earnest permission to apply for a $75,000 grant from the Arkansas Natural Resource Commission

The grant requires a city match which will be used to assist with flooding issues on Burling Road.

The newspaper also reported the need for a new elevator at the courthouse which Earnest said would  cost about $120,000. Earnest said the county has $640,610 from the Federal Cares Act and the quorum court could spend it any way they wanted.
