The Pine Bluff Lighthouse Charter School recently hosted a Thanks-Give-Away for the community Thursday, November 18th, and is also exposing its students to new programs such as Computer Science that have led them to win two awards at the University of Arkansas Little Rock Boosting Engineering Science and Technology (BEST) Robotics competition.

John Osborn the school’s principal spoke with Deltaplex news and named a few of his staff that was involved with the idea and explained why their school decided to host the Thanks-Give-Away.

C. Jackson is one of the instructors that wanted to host this event for the community, she explained that she and another instructor requested that the staff donate household items, clothes, and special door prices. Jackson also stated she donated the majority of the items from her local business. The leftover donations will be donated to students at the school and they are looking forward to hosting another give-back event in December for Christmas.

On another topic, LHCS recently implemented computer science for all students K-8th, and the instructor, Shanta Calhoun launched a robotics team for her students who competed in the BEST Robotics Competition. Calhoun explained more about the development of the team and explained how the program challenges its students.

Calhoun explained more about the competition and what the students had to build.

The LHCS won the Best Rookie Team Award and the Most Diverse Award during the competition that took place on November 13th. Calhoun also talked to Deltaplex about that.
