Lady Lions Soccer Begins Jeremy Winzer Era With First Practice
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women’s soccer program begins new era with their first practice under first-year head coach Jeremy Winzer on Monday, August 5.
Winzer comes to UAPB with strong knowledge of the game and a strong recruiting background.
The Lady Lions is eager for a fresh start after playing the 2018 season with key injuries and lack of depth and will lean on its upperclassmen for leadership. Senior Shannon Seymour, Sarah Wright, Sariah Orocu, and junior Tori Spigner will look to play a significant role in UAPB success.
“I think the first day was great, a lot of energy and positive communication, and high work rate with the players,” said Winzer. “I don’t think I could ask for a better first day with a team that we put together in a matter of 30 days.”
The team will be made up of seven upperclassmen returning and 17 new players added on the roster. The roster includes nine freshman and eight transfers who will be vying for playing time.
“With some experience players coming back, I think their role is very important,” said Winzer. “Spigner and Orocu really stepped up in a great way today with taking the young players under their wings and making them feel at home. “I think that’s huge for us when we are looking at the development of our young players who will be the foundation of the team in the future.”
UAPB will have seven days, one exhibition at home against Arkansas St. Tuesday, August 13, to prepare for the regular-season opener at home against Central Baptist College Thursday, August 22.
